- Digital image fundamentals: pixels, sampling and quantization
- Image representation: grayscale, color and intensity levels
- Pixel relationships: neighbors, adjacency and distance
- Intensity transformations: negative, log and gamma
- Histogram processing and histogram equalization
- Spatial filtering: smoothing and sharpening
- Transforms: introduction to the frequency domain and the Fourier transform
What you will be able to do
- Compute image size and intensity levels and explain how sampling and quantization affect quality.
- Apply intensity transformations and histogram equalization by hand on a small image, as exam questions require.
- Perform convolution with spatial filters and interpret smoothing and sharpening results.
- Solve pixel adjacency and distance problems using the different measures.
